Hakon Palsson was Earl of Orkney in the 1100s. He was the cousin and rival of Earl Magnus the Holy, and the man who brought about Magnus’s martyrdom. He later regretted his deed, went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and had a fine, stone church built at his estate in Orphir, Orkney. The ruined “Round Kirk”, as it is known, can still be seen today. This chocolate collection commemorates his life as a Norse earl and his journey to the Holy Land.
