The 1000-year journey was undertaken by an older woman, a middle aged man, and a child. They were found buried in a boat at Scar in the island of Sanday in the 1980s, a millennium after their family had chosen a wooden boat for their last journey. Among the woman’s grave goods was a whalebone plaque, very finely made with two carved horse-heads (or dragon-heads). The heads are replicated here in dark, milk and white chocolate.
